Australian Business Sponsors

Current and Future Business Sponsors

Standard Business Sponsorship (SBS)

Standard Business Sponsorship (SBS) is an agreement with the Australian government that allows certain Australian businesses to sponsor overseas citizens to work in highly skilled occupations. This agreement, once approved, is issued for 5 years, and allows the business to nominate the overseas citizen worker for a TSS visa (subclass 482).

REQUIREMENTS

The requirements for approval as a Standard Business Sponsor are as follows:

  • The business must be lawfully operating;
  • The business must not have any adverse information recorded against it.

BENEFITS

  • Ability to fill skill shortages within the business with skilled workers who cannot be sourced locally
  • Ability to move staff easily between locations for global organisations

WHO CAN APPLY FOR STANDARD BUSINESS SPONSORSHIP?

The various types of entities that would generally apply for SBS approval should fall within one of these five groups of ‘persons’. These include:

  • sole traders;
  • partnerships;
  • proprietary companies;
  • public companies;
  • government departments;
  • statutory authorities;
  • not-for-profit-organisations; and
  • educational institutions.

Common Scenarios

We are a small company with less than 10 employees. Can we still apply for Standard Business Sponsorship?

Yes, provided the business can demonstrate that it is financially viable and lawfully operating, an organisation of any size can apply for SBS approval.

My business held a standard business sponsorship previously, which has now expired. Is it possible to renew this agreement?

Yes. An SBS agreement can be renewed as many times as required, provided the business can meet the criteria for approval. It is worth noting that additional criteria may be required to be met by those who have previously held an SBS agreement. It is recommended that a business in this situation seek professional assistance.

OUR SERVICE

As part of our services, we will assess the eligibility of the application for a standard business sponsorship agreement and provide you with detailed advice on your business' chances of success. If our services are engaged, we will guide you through the entire process, from collating and gathering the required documents, preparing your application, liaising with the Department of Home Affairs and relevant third parties as necessary and finally, lodging the application. TSS can also assist in the event that the Department requests further information or the circumstances of your business change.

As soon as an outcome is received, you will be notified and reminded of your obligations as a sponsor moving forward.
