Trends in Visa Applications over the past 24 months

• 27,660 subclass 457 primary visa applications were lodged in the 2014-15 year to 31 December 2014, 18.1 per cent higher than the same period in the previous programme year.
• 25,530 subclass 457 primary visas were granted in the 2014-15 programme year to 31 December 2014, 6.6 per cent lower compared with the same period in the previous programme year.
• The number of primary visa holders in Australia on 31 December 2014 was 90,040, 0.8 per cent lower compared with the same period in the previous programme year.
With reference to the table below there have been some quite significant changes in the number of applications granted from 2013 to 2014. The number of applications granted for cooks and cafe or restaurant manager has decreased from 23.6% and 19% respectively during the period. It is significant that DIBP scrutinise these applications more than others that attract a higher level of remuneration.

In 2014-15 to 31 December 2014, the number of primary applications lodged offshore was 14,070, an increase of 16.5 per cent from the same period in the previous programme year (12,080).
13,590 primary applications were lodged onshore in 2014-15 to 31 December 2014, this was 19.8 per cent higher compared to the same period in the previous programme year (11,350).Grants
In 2014-15 to 31 December 2014, offshore primary visa grants were steady at 13,320 compared to the same period in the previous programme year (13,310).
There were 12,210 onshore primary visas granted in 2014-15 to 31 December 2014, a decrease of 13.0 per cent compared with the previous programme year (14,030)

In 2014-15 to 31 December 2014, the number of subclass 457 visa holders who were granted a permanent residence or provisional visa was 25,160, an increase of 2.7 per cent compared with the same period in the previous programme year
